Safe internal access for lift engineers in a very tight space
Most scaffolding jobs give you room to work.
This one didn’t.
M8 Scaffolding was called to 217 St Vincent Street in Glasgow by Hart Lifts after a lift became jammed inside the shaft. Their engineers needed access to carry out the necessary work, but getting safely to the lift was the problem.

So we built the scaffold inside.
Working within a lift shaft changes things considerably. Space is restricted, access isn’t exactly generous and the scaffold has to fit around a structure that was never designed with scaffolders in mind.
There wasn’t much room for error.
The scaffold was built inside the shaft to give the Hart Lifts engineers a secure working platform and safe access to the affected area. It meant they could get close enough to the lift to carry out their work without relying on awkward or unsuitable access methods.
It’s also a good example of where internal scaffolding comes into its own.
Scaffolding isn’t only for building exteriors. Sometimes it needs to go into lift shafts, enclosed areas and other restricted spaces where getting people safely into position is half the battle.
This wasn’t a huge scaffold.
Far from it.
But when you’re building inside a lift shaft, size definitely isn’t what makes the job interesting.
