Sometimes the most important thing on a construction site isn’t what you can see – it’s what’s there to protect people if something goes wrong.
Crash deck scaffolding provides a temporary safety platform beneath areas where work is being carried out at height.
Whether you’re tackling ceiling work, roofing projects, structural alterations or other upper-level tasks, a properly designed crash deck can form an important part of the fall-protection measures on site.
At M8 Scaffolding in Glasgow, we design and install crash deck scaffolding throughout Glasgow, Edinburgh and central Scotland. Working with contractors, commercial clients and homeowners, we create systems around the dimensions, access requirements and working conditions of each individual project.
Every structure is carefully planned and installed to provide dependable protection while allowing the work above to continue safely and efficiently.
A crash deck, sometimes referred to as safety decking, is a temporary scaffold structure installed below an area where people are working at height. Its primary purpose is to reduce the distance a person could fall by providing a platform beneath the working area rather than allowing them to fall all the way to ground level.
Crash decks are commonly required where work is taking place above openings or fragile areas such as skylights, glass panels, exposed joists and other open sections of a building. Depending on the circumstances, alternative fall-protection systems such as cushioned impact systems or airbags may also be used.
Crash decks can range from relatively small platforms to extensive structures covering large working areas. They can be constructed using proprietary systems such as Trad Safety Deck, or from traditional scaffolding systems including tube and fitting and Cuplock, particularly where greater heights or more complex configurations are involved.
Crash deck scaffolding forms part of the wider safety measures covered by the Work at Height Regulations. Although personnel would not normally be expected to work beneath a crash deck, they can also provide protection from falling materials and debris during certain operations, including demolition work.
Contractors – We Get the Pressure You’re Under
Tight deadlines are part and parcel of construction work. That’s why we plan and install crash deck scaffolding efficiently, giving your trades the protection they need without unnecessarily holding up the programme. Whether you require a small internal deck or a more extensive scaffold structure, we can design the system around the work being carried out and the conditions on site.
Commercial Clients Need Reliability
From retail fit-outs to warehouse refurbishments and major alteration works, crash deck scaffolding can help maintain a safe and compliant environment while work takes place at height. We design each system around the building, working areas and project schedule, helping to minimise disruption while maintaining the high safety standards expected on a commercial site.
Homeowners Deserve Peace of Mind
Planning a loft conversion, roof alteration or major ceiling work? Where trades need to work above open or fragile areas, a correctly installed crash deck can provide an important additional level of protection. We’ll assess the property and the work being undertaken before designing a suitable system, helping trades work safely while taking proper care of your home.
