At M8 Scaffolding, we’re proud to have successfully completed a complex scaffolding project for MOWI Scotland, the UK’s largest supplier of farm-raised salmon. This job took place at their state-of-the-art production facility in Fort William, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.
Our task was to install a suspended scaffolding system and walkway that would allow the erection of new steel beams as part of MOWI’s upcoming production facility upgrade. With the production floor directly below still operating 24/7, there was no option to build from the ground up. Instead, we engineered a suspended scaffold supported by beams clamped securely to existing roof structures, ensuring zero disruption to the work being carried out by the MOWI staff directly below. The work required a bespoke design of cuplock, tube and fitting beams to effectively hang from the existing steelwork to ensure that there was limited intrusion onto the floor space. There is a walkway at the top of the building to allow new steel beams to be fitted.
To accommodate MOWI’s busy round-the-clock operations, our experienced team worked through the night, on the Friday and Saturday, timing our installation with their quietest period – although trucks carrying salmon continued arriving throughout the installation, and the area below the scaffolding was bust with MOWI staff. Safety was paramount on this project, and all M8 Scaffolding operatives completed MOWI’s stringent online safety inductions before setting foot on site, reflecting our ongoing commitment to health and safety.
