Bringing a Paisley landmark back to life with a complex temporary roof installation
When a prominent local construction company was let down by two separate scaffolding firms, they turned to M8 Scaffolding to get the job done right. The challenge? A complex and highly sensitive temporary roof structure was designed to fully protect a historic building during its restoration, ensuring zero risk of water ingress while specialist roofing works were carried out.
The project called for a 100% watertight solution, and that’s exactly what we delivered.
Using an advanced temporary roofing system from Altrad, our team installed a full-span cover across the building. This involved carefully assembling the roof structure and then pulling durable, weatherproof sheeting over the frame to form a sealed protective layer. We used a method known as “rolling on”—a process where each roof section is built and pushed out on rollers to span the entire roof. Once in place, the sheeting is pulled across and tightly strapped down to create a reliable weather barrier.
Every element of the structure was engineered to precise specifications, with calculations reviewed and approved by a qualified structural engineer. As with all temporary roofs, wind uplift was a key consideration. The full scaffold was expertly tied together and stabilised with water tanks at the base to ensure absolute safety, even in the stormiest west of Scotland conditions.
This building had sadly fallen into disrepair over the years. We’re proud to be part of its transformation, supporting a project that will see it restored to its former glory and brought back into meaningful community use.
