We were recently contacted by a leading Glasgow roofing company after the local scaffolding company they contracted produced work that can only be described as dangerous.
When the scaffolding company had finished building the scaffold, the roofing contractor was immediately aware that it wasn’t safe for their employees to work on. The scaffold had been built and not properly secured, which meant when they accessed it, they could feel the full structure move, even when only under the weight of one person.
The roofing company contacted M8 Scaffolding, and we were able to rebuild the scaffolding safely, to the regulated standard, and to the client’s complete satisfaction.
It highlights the risk of using a company which claims to be a professional scaffolding company but doesn’t comply with the latest regulations. When appointing a scaffolding company make sure to check out the following basics:
- Check the scaffolders have the CISRS scaffold card and it states SCAFFOLDER. Make sure it has not expired.
- Make sure they provide a copy of the correct insurance documentation. Remember, if they damage your property, your insurance company might not pay out if they do not hold the proper certifications.
- Ensure that they provide you with a scope of work of what they will do, and don’t be afraid to ask them questions. In this case, the client just assumed they knew what they were doing.
We have provided before and after pictures of the area we tied in. The Before images show a single beam, which the company said the roofer could climb on to get onto the roof. Compare this to our revised work and make your mind up for yourself.
